Hey guys! It’s your girl Viola, and I’ve just had my first day of College! So yeah, I’m officially a college student now.
When I got up in the morning I knew it was my first day but it didn’t feel like my first day, if you get what I mean. I thought I would get butterflies or feel super excited. Don’t get me wrong, I was excited, but it just felt like another ordinary day.
I finally got to meet my entire class and to be honest I couldn’t ask for better classmates, they are all so nice and friendly to each other and for once no one is picking fights or slagging each other off. Everyone gets along so we’ll be able to work as a strong team together. The only way my class could be better is if all of my friends that i like from school were in there with me, but they’re not fussed on catering which is okay.
When I got there we spent the first couple hours discussing what we’ll do over the course of the year and my teacher Kevin showed us how to use all the appliances in the kitchen and what to do in the event of an emergency.
We won’t start on our timetable until next Monday because on our first week it’s more easy going and fun.
Over the course of the week there will be stalls in different places as this week is the beginners fair. The stalls give you a bunch of free stuff which is cool, and me and my classmates are having a little contest to see who can get the most free stuff. There are 5 different places to eat in the college and that is where they set them up. Today there were three stalls in the restaurant, on Thursday it’ll be the coffee shop and tomorrow it’s “the zone”. Today one stall had free pasty’s and sausage rolls, pasty pens, pasty shaped bottle openers and these squishy rubber pasties that you can play with if your bored or stressed. Basically a stress ball, but a pasty in this case. The second stall was just them mini chocolate and sugar ring doughnuts that you can get in Sainsbury’s supermarket, and the third stall was full of strange fruit and veg like dragon fruit, black garlic that looks like leeches and these lychi fruits that you get in Chinese restaurants. Let’s just say that free stuff, especially food, is my favourite moto.
As I’m the only one in my class who got a C in Maths and English and everyone else has to redo it, before lunch while the others were upstairs doing an assessment I had some time to do what I wanted. I used this time to wonder the corridors and have a look around. I didn’t go and look at any of the small buildings, I just stuck to the main block, but it’s quite big so I had plenty to explore.
At lunch I had a free pasty but I was still hungry so I bought a cheeseburger from the diner with my new classmate Louise and then me and the others had a wonder around. I have actually discovered that one of them has their birthday on the same day as me. We were both born on the 3rd August 2000 which is insane! We’re only a few hours apart. Me and him really hit it off. After we were walking back to class after a whole year assembly in the theatre we just talked and talked. I mentioned that I was a little anxious about being in a class with no one I know and he said jokily, and I quote “well we seem to be getting on really well. Us and our bro-mance”. That made me laugh.
I can’t wait for tomorrow! We’re making checkered cakes, bread, biscuits and each person is doing a different flavoured scone. I’m doing cinnamon and apple.
That’s all for now guys! Viola over and out xxx
